Melissa Rivers Speaks Out After Mother’s Death

Melissa Rivers remembered her mother and gave a touching speech at a breakfast given by The Hollywood Reporter for “Women in Entertainment” Wednesday morning. Joan Rivers died suddenly two months ago at age 81 after a routine throat procedure went badly.

Melissa Rivers was met with a standing ovation in Los Angeles, and called her mother “fearless.”

“She was willing to say what others were thinking. She thought of herself as a comic and had to be funnier than everyone else. She just wanted to do her job and that was to make people laugh,” Rivers said. (RELATED: Doctor Fired After Joan Rivers Procedure Goes Bad)

The event paid tribute to the late comedian, and her daughter said, “If my mother were here this morning she would not only be grateful and proud but she would be beyond herself.”

“On behalf of my mother, thank you so, so much for this wonderful honor.”
