It was tough to start this review. I have tested quite a few heated jackets and never have been really impressed. I find most heated jackets to be way too bulky and loud for my hunts. There has always been a gap between necessity and want. So when I heard about mYcore Control’s heated jackets I was not eager for the task. There were multiple product reviews already stating the jackets capabilities and what seemed to be glowing reviews on their retailers pages. I still held skepticism.

I ordered one of their jackets. They notified me that it would be shipped on the next day and alas three days later it is in my hands.

When I received the package, their logo was outlining the box which gave an air of professionalism. The jacket came with an instruction manual on how exactly the coat functions, washing and drying instructions, etc. I ordered a large normally assuming that they will run big and my assumption was correct. The large fit me perfectly (normally a XL size) and there is an adjustable drawstring at the waistline just to take up any slack.

How does it look?

The coat looks like every other Mossy Oak hunting jacket out there. It is not really unique but it is doing exactly what it was meant to; camouflage you. You can tell that attention to detail was given in the manufacturing. The coat is definitely not bulky or abnormally large in certain areas like most of the other products out there. The company’s logo does not take up the entire jacket and is humbly placed in the buttons and on the left chest in orange so it matches what most folks are already wearing.

Simplicity, in this case, is exactly what I want.

Core jacket1

What is it made of?

Divide this jacket into 3 parts. The outer layer is 100% polyester.

The middle layer is wool. Great for insulation which adds to the functionality of the mYcore jacket.

The interior has another layer of polyester. After having to deal with a little rain during my hunt, I believe the jacket is waterproof. It was wet on the outside but remained dry on the inside and no water made it to the technology inside the coat. I usually complain about the zipper but this one is great. Just in case the zipper is not enough there are snap buttons going along with it all the way up to your neck.

Does the technology work?

I’ll give you the conditions: 13 degrees, winds at 10-15 MPH and snow on the ground.

Other clothing; boots, socks, pants, underwear, shirt, gloves, and a hat. The first hour of the hunt and I could definitely feel the heat starting to spread. The sources are isolated to the wrist so there are no heated blankets on your chest or back that become excessively noisy and bulky. After hour 2, I began to sweat and immediately turned the jacket to the low setting and remained comfortable for the remainder of the hunt. There won’t be any need for layers.

I was extremely impressed with the battery life. In total the jacket was on for 10 hours. I even turned it off before the battery died.

What would I change?

Not much honestly. The indication lights for each heat setting can be a bit confusing. That’s it. Just need to be conscious of turning on the jacket and knowing that it is on.

Final Thoughts

I’m convinced this is the best heated jacket on the market. Not bulky like most others and it was easy to wear and move around while in the stand or walking. It is relatively quiet unless you are yanking on the velcro. The technology actually works and lasts. The battery life is outstanding and they have taken what hunters want and applied it to the jacket. This jacket is easily a $350  garment and it is priced at $280 – worth the price and roughly $75 less than any competitor.

The guys and gals at mYcore Control having something unique here and hopefully they can push past the hunting barrier and into new avenues.
