Salon: Rape Is ‘Intrinsic To Religion’ And God Raped Mary

Merry Christmas, everyone! Unfortunately, left-wing website and perpetual joke Salon believes your holiday — and all religion — is founded on rape.

The article, entitled “Why rape is so intrinsic to religion,” was written by psychologist Valerie Tarico, author of such other Salon pieces like “Was Mother Teresa a masochist?” “6 reasons religion may do more harm than good,” and “The sad, twisted truth about conservative Christianity’s effect on the mind.”

The premise of the piece is that many religions throughout history have depicted human women becoming pregnant by gods, a situation Tarico finds “more than a little rapey.” (RELATED: Salon Warns Of ‘White Menaces To Society’)

“[T]hese encounters between beautiful young women and gods have one thing in common. None of them has freely given female consent as a part of the narrative,” she writes. “(Luke’s Mary assents after being not asked but told by a powerful supernatural being what is going to happen to her, ‘Behold the bond slave of the Lord: be it done to me . . .’)”

The story’s subheadline is even more explicit: “Stories like the virgin birth lack freely given female consent.” (RELATED: HuffPo Op-Ed: Jesus Incited Riots, Too!)

The article was republished from the far-left website Alternet. “Salon is proud to feature content from AlterNet,” a disclaimer reads above the opinion piece, “an award-winning news magazine and online community that creates original journalism and amplifies the best of hundreds of other independent media sources.”
