Anger towards New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio continues to rise as his opponents have now taken to the sky to express their frustration with his perceived attitude toward cops.

On Friday, a banner flew over the Hudson River that read: “DE BLASIO, OUR BACKS HAVE TURNED TO YOU.”

The message references police turning their backs towards de Blasio as he walked toward a press conference to address the slaying of two NYPD officers last weekend.

The Daily News reports that the company that flew the banner stated the individuals behind it wished to remain anonymous. A local cop blogger wrote that many within the law enforcement community wished for him to post a detailed statement shortly after the message was sighted around 9 a.m.

“It is our opinion that Mayor de Blasio’s dangerous and irresponsible comments about his and his wife’s concern for their son’s safety at the hands of the NYPD fueled the flames that led to civil unrest, and potentially to the deaths of PO Wenjian Liu and PO Rafael Ramos, as well as the continued threats against NYPD personnel. The mayor shows us no respect, and encourages the public to follow his lead,” a part of the statement read.

Several NYPD cops view the mayor in a negative light due to his statements supporting recent protests against police, criticism of NYPD tactics such as stop-and-frisk, and believing that his biracial son is more likely to get harsh treatment from law enforcement due to the color of his skin.

The local cop blogger, John Cardillo, told The Daily News that “hundreds” of cops were behind the protest and raised $1,200 to fly the banner Friday morning.
