During a year in review edition of “This Week,” on Sunday, ABC News’ Jon Karl said that while 2014 was the year Hillary Clinton “solidified her standing” as the Democrats frontrunner for 2016, the calendar year “didn’t go exactly as planned.”

“But for Mrs. Clinton, 2014 didn’t go exactly as planned,” said Karl, who pointed out Hillary’s rocky book tour as a chief cause.

Karl, who serves as ABC’s chief White House correspondent, also noted the former First Lady’s “dead broke” remark and her initial comments and later back-track on President Obama’s decision not to arm the Syrian rebels. Clinton also initially said this decision aided the rise of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria in the area.

“This is not about nostalgia, she’s not inevitable. There are other candidates out there that will pose a threat,” said Democratic strategist Donna Brazile. “But I still believe she is the best positioned in the field right now.”

“She spent 4 1/2 years off the campaign trail, and I think she had to regain her political footing,” Brazile added. “I think she will start off 2015 knowing exactly where she’s going, and hopefully inspiring others to follow her.”
