Mayor De Blasio Bans Foam Packing Peanuts

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio is reeling.

In recent days, New York Police Department officers coldly turned their backs on him during funeral services for Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos, the two police officers shot execution-style in a police car Dec. 20 by Ismaaiyl Brinsley, a black man allegedly seeking revenge for the deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner. (RELATED: Hundreds Of Police Officers Turned Against De Blasio At Slain NYPD Officer’s Funeral)

Now, though, de Blasio is showing confident leadership — by announcing a ban on foam packing peanuts.

The Democrat announced the important environmental prohibition on Thursday, the New York Daily News reports.

The ban will also cover takeout containers and plastic foam cups.

It will take effect July 1.

The administration of former Mayor Michael Bloomberg, a Republican, actually initiated the foam forbiddance. In 2013, the New York City Council passed a law giving the mayor the power to ban foam deemed not recyclable by the city sanitation commissioner.

“They made the right decision, grounded in the science,” Bloomberg deputy mayor for operations Cas Holloway told the Daily News. “It doesn’t biodegrade, can’t be recycled and should be phased out — rapidly.”

De Blasio is a longtime admirer of Nicaragua’s ruling Sandinista party, according to The New York Times. He came to office on a platform that included tax increases, crushing inequality and punishing “the elite,” building more abortion clinics and banning horse-drawn carriage rides in Central Park. Before he was elected mayor, de Blasio was the New York City Public Advocate. He also attended two swanky, ultra-expensive colleges and spent his honeymoon in Cuba, a tin-pot dictatorship from which people routinely risk their lives to escape and which has not held a free election in roughly 60 years.

Earlier this week, two planes flew anti-Bill de Blasio plane banners over the Hudson River. (RELATED: Retired Cops Fly Huge Anti-De Blasio Banners Past NYC Skyline)

“De Blasio. You Failed All NY’ers. It’s Time. Resign,” read one.

“New York Support The NYPD. Rest in Peace Dets Liu & Ramos,” said the other.
