A Florida jail guard was fired by Pinellas County Jail Tuesday for attacking an inmate in a wheelchair in October.

The detention deputy beat the inmate, threw him to the ground and shattering his dentures, WFTS reports.

In a video released by the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, detention deputy Raymond Ferrio can be seen pulling an inmate from his wheelchair and throwing him to the ground. He then continues to punch and knee the inmate. The inmate did not physically threaten the deputy, according to a release by the sheriff’s office.

So what happened? Authorities say the inmate refused to attend a sick call. When Ferrio tried to wheel the inmate out of his housing unit, the inmate put his feet down to prevent movement — and Ferrio lost it.

“Investigators say Ferrio admitted that the use of force was not justified and he ‘got caught up in the moment,’” the release states. “Ferrio further admitted he should have handled the situation differently.”

No kidding.
