American snowboarder Danny Davis made X Games History on Thursday night.

Davis became the X-Games’ first back-to-back SuperPipe Gold Medal Winner, not named Shaun White. Going into the final run of the competition, Davis sat in fourth-place and would need to throw down something special to not only repeat as champion, but get on the podium in the first place.

Spoiler Alert: That’s exactly what happened.

Davis’ effort was good enough for gold, but it also pushed X Games legend Shaun White off of the podium; White hasn’t competed in Superpipe since X Games 2007, and his absence from the event led many analysts to brand Davis’ 2014 gold as un-earned.

Japan’s Taku Hiraoka and Switzerland’s Iori Podladtchikov won silver and bronze, respectively.
