This week’s female high school teacher busted for having sex with an underage male student is Stephanie McCrea.
McCrea, 35, teaches drama and English at Evergreen High School in Vancouver, Wash., The Oregonian reports. She is also the theater director at the school.
Local police detectives say McCrea has had quite a bit of sex with a 15-year-old Evergreen High student, her drama pupil, since the start of December 2014.
McCrea and the unidentified male student allegedly had numerous encounters in McCrea’s office at school. They would meet several times each week in the morning before the school day started and after drama practice. They would make out. McCrea performed oral sex on the boy right there in her office, according to court documents obtained by Portland CBS affiliate KOIN-TV.
The whirlwind affair continued over the Evergreen High Christmas break.
There was sex inside McCrea’s home, which the teacher shares with a nine-year-old son, police say.
Other scintillating details include a pair of fake Facebook accounts that the doomed, star-crossed lovers used to communicate during an investigation. Police say the Facebook accounts were McCrea’s idea.
The high school teacher instructed the male student about what to tell police detectives, according to prosecutors.
She swore to the boy, two decades her junior, that they would be together forever, investigators say.
And she allegedly threatened to commit suicide in the event that authorities found out about the illicit love affair.
McCrea has not had an easy go of life in recent years. She did, in fact, attempt suicide two weeks ago, according to her lawyer, Steve Thayer. She has also suffered from mental health issues since an automobile accident in 2012, Thayer added.
The teacher also separated from her husband about a month ago.
McCrea’s arrest on Tuesday is her “first arrest for anything,” Thayer said, according to The Oregonian.
The slew of charges against McCrea includes third-degree rape of a child, tampering with a witness and unlawful misconduct with a child.
After turning herself in on Tuesday, McCrea appeared in court on Wednesday wearing prison scrubs and wrist and ankle restraints.
She posted bail of $40,000 on Wednesday afternoon.
A 2012 Evergreen High School graduate, Danielle O’Brien, showed up at the arraignment to support McCrea.
“She was an amazing woman when I knew her,” O’Brien told The Oregonian. “I don’t think anyone expected that she would [do] this.”
The Evergreen School District has placed McCrea on paid leave.
