Asked if he knew Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s plan to fund the Department of Homeland Security and stop the president’s executive order on immigration, House Speaker John Boehner said, “God bless him and good luck.”

Senate Democrats have blocked a House bill that would fund the Department of Homeland Security, but deny Obama any funds to follow through on his executive order granting work permits to millions of illegal immigrants. If the Senate is unable to pass the bill, it’s unclear if Republicans have a plan B.

“We won this fight,” Boehner said referring to the House-passed bill. “Now it’s time for Senate Republicans and Senate Democrats to come together and hold the president accountable.”

“It’s time for them to get their act together,” he added.

“Are you clear on what [McConnell] is doing?” a reporter asked Boehner Thursday at his weekly press conference.

“No,” Boehner said. “He’s got a tough job. He’s got a tough job over there. I’ve got a tough job over here. God bless him and good luck.”

“The House fought this fight,” he added. “We won this fight. Now it’s time for Senate Democrats to work with Senate Republicans to stop the president’s unilateral actions with regard to immigration.”

The reporter kept pressing: “Three time’s a charm — what’s next?” he asked. “I mean right now it’s not going to happen.”

“Why are you asking me?” Boehner shot back. “You should be asking Senate Democrats why they continue to block consideration of the bill.”
