Across the country, the nation’s top high school prospects pledged their respective football allegiances on Wednesday, and as the smoke cleared, one thing became clear — the Southeastern Conference still reigns supreme.

At day’s end, the University of Alabama Crimson Tide’s recruiting class retained the overall top spot, but the SEC also had 5 other teams ranked in the top-10, had twelve classes ranked within the top-25, and landed the most-sought recruit in the country.

Reigning National Champion Ohio State’s class was ranked sixth-overall, moving coach Urban Meyer’s team up one spot from last year’s class.

Unlike the pros, college football is set up to help teams sustain success over vast periods of time. Winning teams get the top recruits, which should in theory, make it easier to win the next year. This type of cyclical recruiting makes it difficult for smaller market teams to land top recruits.

In the world of college football recruiting, it’s obviously good to be the king.
