Conservative commentator Charles Krauthammer said on Fox News’ “Special Report” Monday that it was a “farce” for President Obama to claim that Russia was isolated because of the crisis in Ukraine, and that Putin was “in charge” of the situation. KRAUTHAMMER: The reason Obama appears delusional about what success is here is that he defines success as having a broad alliance where everybody issues statements and they all stand together, the way we have a sixty-member alliance against ISIS which is fifty-eight of them doing essentially nothing, and where ISIS has doubled the territory since our campaign began.

When it comes to Ukraine, because we stand shoulder-to-shoulder Russia is isolated, it’s a farce. Russia is isolated? Putin sits in Moscow, and the President of France and Chancellor of Germnay have to fly to Moscow on bended knee and beg him to stop the advance of his forces in Ukraine. He is not isolated. He is in charge!

And the idea, in fact, that a line that Obama and [German Chancellor Angela Merkel] were pushing today about how united the allies are is itself a farce. One rule in diplomacy is if you hear people repeating over and over in public how united they are, you know that there are deep divisions. The division here is that the Europeans are scared to death. They are afraid of Putin militarily. They are afraid of what he might do in the Baltic states and Poland.
