House Speaker John Boehner says it’s time for Senate Democrats to “get off their ass and do something, other than to vote no” when it comes to the fight over funding the Department of Homeland Security.

“The House did its job,” Boehner told reporters Wednesday. “We won the fight to fund the Department of Homeland Security and to stop the president’s unconstitutional actions. Now it’s time for the Senate to do their work.”

House Republicans have approved legislation to fund DHS, which runs out of money by the end of the month, while gutting the president’s recent executive actions on illegal immigration. But Democrats are refusing to vote for any DHS funding bill with those strings attached.

Boehner argued Wednesday it’s the Senate Democrats — and not the House Republicans — who need to figure out the next steps.

“You know, in the gift shop out there, they’ve got these little booklets on how a bill becomes a law,” Boehner said. “All right? The House has done its job. Why don’t you go ask the Senate Democrats when they’re going to get off their ass and do something, other than to vote no.”
