The annual conference for the American-Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) is fast approaching. It’s generally a must-speak event for Members of Congress and administration officials. But this year it appears to be something high ranking Obama officials are going to avoid.

Asked today if Secretary of State John Kerry would be speaking at the AIPAC meeting, spokeswoman Jen Psaki said it was unclear, but the secretary was “probably going to be out of town.”

The Associated Press’ Matthew Lee asked on what trip the Secretary would be on, but Psaki was unable to answer.

Kerry joins Vice President Joe Biden in being unavailable to attend events featuring Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, including his speech before a joint session of Congress.

The White House had previously announced that President Obama would not be meeting with Prime Minister Netanyahu when he was in Washington because it was “too close” to the Israeli elections.

President Obama’s former national field director for his reelection campaign is currently in Israel working to defeat Netanyahu.
