A Texas congressman thinks Barack Obama should approve a posthumous Medal of Honor for America’s Sniper, Chris Kyle.

Republican Rep. Roger Williams introduced a bill Thursday to award the highly decorated Navy SEAL a posthumous Medal of Honor for acts of valor during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

“Chris gave the ultimate sacrifice and served his nation with distinction and bravery while saving countless American lives,” Williams said in a statement to reporters. “There is no doubt that this true American hero is worthy of our nation’s highest military honor.”

Kyle was credited with more than 160 kills during his service in Iraq and, and his biography inspired the box office hit “American Sniper.” He was murdered at a gun range two years ago by a Marine veteran he was trying to help, and who was convicted this week.

“While the Medal of Honor will not bring back a husband, father, son and a model Texan, we owe Chris Kyle and his family a great deal of gratitude for his relentless devotion to his country,” Rogers said in the statement.

Rogers request faces an uphill battle, because it asks the Pentagon to consider Kyle’s entire record of service, rather than a single outstanding act of valor, as is usually the case, reported The Washington Post. Williams acknowledged that his request is out of the ordinary, but said in the statement restrictions have been waived in some cases.
