Happy birthday Misao Okawa!

The world’s oldest person is celebrating her 117th birthday in Japan.

Okawa, who was born on March 5, 1898, celebrated with family at her nursing home in Osaka the day before her actual birthday.

According to the AP, when asked about her long life, Okawa said, “It seemed rather short.”

In 2013, Okawa was recognized by Guinness World Records as the world’s oldest person.

She has slowed in recent months and is hard of heard, however her nurses say the 117-year-old is still in good health and still eating well.

Okawa was born in Osaka, Japan in 1898. She married her husband Yukio in 1919, and had three children. Yukio passed away in 1931 and Misao never remarried. She now had 4 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

When asked about the secret to her longevity, Okawa nonchalantly said, “I wonder about it, too.”
