FLASHBACK: 2008 Obama Campaign Mocked McCain’s Inability To Use Email [VIDEO]

President Barack Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign included a highly negative ad mocking John McCain, his Republican opponent, for being so old and out of touch he could not use email.

“He admits he still doesn’t know how to use a computer, can’t send an email,” the ad from the tech-savvy 2008 Obama campaign charges.

The ad (which you can view below) stands in stark contrast to Hillary Clinton’s claims that she used a personal email account “out of convenience” because she could not handle more than one “device” for emails.

“When I got to work as secretary of state, I opted for convenience to use my personal email account, which was allowed by the State Department because I thought it would be easier to carry just one device for my work and for my personal emails instead of two,” the 67-year-old former Secretary of State Clinton explained at a press conference on Tuesday. Clinton also explained that she has deleted some emails between her and her husband, 68-year-old former President Bill Clinton.

However, Bill Clinton’s spokesman, Matt McKenna, told The Wall Street Journal on Tuesday that President Clinton has sent just two emails in his whole life — and neither of them were to Hillary.

One of Bill Clinton’s rare emails was addressed to astronaut John Glenn. The other went to U.S. troops serving in the Adriatic.

The 2008 Obama ad, entitled “Still,” ridicules McCain for his professed inability to handle email as a communication forum.

“1982,” a somewhat angry, somewhat patronizing male voiceover in the ad begins, as a disco ball spins.

“John McCain goes to Washington. Things have changed in the last 26 years,” the voice says, as viewers see a Rubik’s cube, a hoary desktop computer and a woman answering a hugely thick mobile telephone.

“But McCain … hasn’t,” the disembodied voice intones. “He admits he still doesn’t know how to use a computer, can’t send an email.”

The ad then goes on to accuse McCain of failing to understand economics and favoring corporate tax cuts. (RELATED: Obama Kills Tax Cut Because It Didn’t Help Illegals)

“We just can’t afford a president” who is out of touch, the ad concludes.

“I’m Barack Obama, and I approved this message,” a bubbly Obama says at the very end. (RELATED: Remember When Obama Was The Messiah?)

Earlier this month, Hillary Clinton came under a cloud of controversy over allegations that she exclusively used her personal email account to conduct business as secretary of state, flouting federal requirements and raising concerns that the account was not sufficiently encrypted.

Obama chose Clinton, his Democratic Party rival, to serve as secretary of state in his first administration.
