WASHINGTON — When the Sharknado devours the nation’s capital this summer, Michele Bachmann will be at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

The former Republican congresswoman from Minnesota spent Wednesday morning filming a short scene for “Sharknado 3,” the Syfy movie series that is known for being so bad that it is good.

“It’s a total stretch—I’m playing Congresswoman Michele Bachmann at the White House on the way to the Congress,” an amused Bachmann said in an interview with The Daily Caller Wednesday.

Here’s how Sharknado 3 is described on IMBD: “The sharks take a bite out of the East Coast when the sharknado hits Washington, D.C. and Orlando, Florida.”

Bachmann said she had never heard of Sharknado before getting the offer to play herself, but her children convinced her to do it.

“We have five biological kids and we have 23 foster kids,” she said. “So I sent out a group text, and so I said, ‘Has anyone heard of Sharknado and what do you think?’ And so anyway, they said ‘oh yeah it’s so great.’”

Bachmann watched the prior Sharknados on Netflix. “It reminded me of the Airplane movies that came out in the 70s or 80s,” she said. “I thought, ‘yeah this would be fun. It’s a spoof. It’d be a hoot. I got a little bit of time. I could do it.’ So anyway, I happen to be in D.C. anyway, and so I thought I’d come over here.”

“This is our only day of filming,” Bachmann added. “It went so smoothly. We just got it done like right now…We even got a segment on GITMO, so this is really going to be perfect.”

Anthony Ferrante, the film’s director, praised Bachmann’s acting.

“The thing that is amazing is that you bring someone in like her — like in the second movie when we had Matt Lauer and Al Roker — and you give them lines and they’re like bam, bam, bam, bam,” Ferrante said. “And they nail it.”

Another film crew member cracked: “She was way better than our actors were. Seriously. We were like, ‘there are a lot of lines, and she was like, this isn’t a lot of lines.’ She’s great. She was great.”

Ferrante, the director, said they have almost finished filming the movie. “We’re kind of technically done,” he said. “This is like one of the last little bits we’re doing.”

Tara Reid is set to star in the movie again. Meanwhile, entrepreneur Mark Cuban is playing himself as president of the United States while commentator Ann Coulter is playing the role of vice president.

Other celebs making appearances, according to reports, include Jerry Springer, Michael Bolton and David Hasselhoff.

The movie is set to premiere this summer.
