Zayn Malik, a member of the boy band One Direction, quit the five-piece on Tuesday after five years with the group, saying that he wants “to be a normal 22-year-old.”
“I am leaving because I want to be a normal 22-year-old who is able to relax and have some private time out of the spotlight,” Malik, who is engaged, said in a statement.
OK.
Totally acceptable that he wants to move on from singing about having crushes on girls and whatnot now that he’s in his early 20s.

However, his fans are reacting in a manner only appropriate if your dog gets run over by a semi-truck while you’re watching.
