Ted Cruz, the only major presidential candidate officially in the race, plans to use Easter weekend to woo evangelicals with a television ad about his Christian faith.

“Were it not for the transformative love of Jesus Christ, I would have been raised by a single mom without my father in the household,” the Texas Republican says in the new ad, the first of the 2016 race.

“God’s blessing has been on America from the very beginning of this nation,” Cruz says in the ad. “Over and over again, when we faced impossible odds, the American people rose to the challenge. This is our fight, and that is why I’m running for President of the United States.”

The 30-second spot, titled “Blessing,” will run in the early nominating states of Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina and Nevada.

The Republican is also running the ad during the Fox News Channel’s broadcast of “Killing Jesus,” the Bill O’Reilly documentary that is airing on Good Friday and on Easter.

Cruz, a tea party favorite, is working hard to attract the support of evangelicals, having announced his campaign at Liberty University.
