Campaign Video Voyeur: Rand’s Rollout

Formally declared presidential candidate Rand Paul’s formal announcement teaser video is stylistically strange. It’s not coherent. It’s not pretty.

From the odd wardrobe choice when Paul speaks, to the cable TV pundits extolling his virtues, to the Mad Men-esque silhouette, the whole video is out of sync. Out of sync is bad when it comes to video production.

Speaking at the conservative confab CPAC, Paul sported an ‘I’m trying really hard to be different’ wardrobe ensemble. It was the jeans-wearing hip cowboy meets Brooks Brothers. Attention video producers: Never allow your talent to be seen with a ‘sheep in bondage’ Brooks Brothers logo on their shirt.

Paul’s supporting cast is chock full of liberal pundits. When MSNBC’s Chris Matthews sings the praises of a GOP presidential candidate, primary voters should be more than a little suspicious. They should run for the hills, as they say in Kentucky.

And seriously, although you might like the show, will anyone vote for a Don Draper for President? Unfortunately for Paul, the man who morphs out of the silhouette won’t actually be Don Draper. It’s more likely to be Ted Cruz.

The music mix was either done by the night shift at an audio post house, or possibly a 21 year old with a laptop who still thinks Paul is libertarian. Because it was far too distracting, stepping on the delivery of the liberal pundits praise.

All in all, it’s a lame effort.
