Following Monday’s NCAA National Championship game, Missouri Democrat Sen. Claire McCaskill sent some inflammatory tweets pertaining to the Duke University Men’s Basketball team.

The Blue Devils defeated the Wisconsin Badgers, 68-63, in large part to the play of freshmen Tyus Jones, Grayson Allen, Justise Wilson and Jahlil Okafor. (RELATED: Fabulous Freshmen Lead Duke To Another National Championship)

Currently, the NCAA is coming under close scrutiny for the “one-and-done” recruiting policy schools are using to secure highly-touted freshmen, and McCaskill used her congratulatory tweet to the Blue Devils as an opportunity to criticize the collegiate athletic body.

Though McCaskill might have been meaning to criticize the NCAA, the Internet interpreted her comments as being aimed at Duke’s actual players, and it was not happy.

Needless to say, the senator tried to backpedal on her comments, but the damage had already been done.
