Two home invaders got more than they bargained for Tuesday.

A man in Merry Meadow, Texas was asleep on his living room couch when two men busted down the front door. Defending his family, who were sleeping in the other room, the man grabbed his handgun and opened fire on the intruders, The Houston Chronicle reports.

The exchanged gunfire left a bullet hole too close for comfort in a bedroom where a child was sleeping, but no one was injured. Authorities told The Daily Caller News Foundation that a woman and three elementary school age children were inside.

The two men, retreating from the father’s gunfire, ran to a getaway car driven by a third suspect.

The police have not made any arrests in the case, but the pair will probably think twice before kicking down another door.

“We’re still investigating, speaking to the neighbors, trying to get better information,” Captain Jon Moore at the Harris County Constable Office for the third precinct told TheDCNF.
