During an appearance on “The Laura Ingraham Show” Tuesday, syndicated columnist Charles Krauthammer panned Hillary Clinton’s campaign road trip, calling it “a joke” and “so inauthentic.”

While Clinton’s much-discussed road trip from New York to Iowa was viewed favorably by many in the media, a fact Krauthammer found shocking, the conservative commentator likened it to Rosie Ruiz’s New York Marathon victory in 1980.

“This is farcical,” Krauthammer started. “What you said about her hopping on a private jet — you remember Rosie Ruiz who won the New York Marathon until it was discovered that she had actually ridden the subway for part of the marathon. That’s sort of how I see her.”

“I mean, what’s so remarkable about this is it’s so brazen, so obvious, so inauthentic that they think they can do it, and so much of the press plays along with this,” Krauthammer said. “Apparently a lot of people are impressed with this kind of new Hillary. It’s a joke.”

“This is the Marie Antoinette tour,” Krauthammer said. “The thing about her is, you know, she hasn’t driven a car since 1996. The idea that she’s on a road trip. She’s got the Secret Service in front driving her. Of course she’s working on her seven electronic devices that she keeps in her purse. She’s now given up only using one.”

“Look, what’s really interesting about the race is this: We know who she is. She has 100 percent name recognition. People have almost entirely set on whether they like her or they don’t. Which means is that the race is entirely in the hands of the Republicans,” Krauthammer said. “I see Hillary as sort of a fixed target. The Republicans, depending on who they choose and depending on how well that person performs, are going to win or lose this.”

Krauthammer has consistently viewed Florida Sen. Marco Rubio as the favorite in the GOP race, having bet more money on Rubio than anyone on Candidate Casino on “Special Report.”

“I think it’s sort of out of Hillary’s hands,” he added. “I don’t think she’s going to change any minds. The question is will the Republican rise who’s attractive enough to win.”
