DC Council Takes Time To Honor Nation’s ‘Most Horrible Corporation’

D.C. Councilman Vincent Orange introduced legislation Tuesday to honor Comcast for being a “committed and engaged member of the Washington D.C. community” during the company’s 14 years of service in the city.

Orange wanted to help Comcast celebrate its “Comcast Cares Day,” where every year the corporation encourages its employees and community members to go out and volunteer somewhere.

According to the bill introduced by Orange, “Comcast Cares Day promotes a spirit of corporate responsibility thanks to the hard work, dedication and service of over 500 Comcast volunteers that participate in the event” each year in D.C.

Volunteerism is great, but that aside, maybe if Comcast reserved some of that care for customers — who regularly run into truly absurd customer service issues like that of AOL’s Ryan Block — it wouldn’t be criticized as the worst company in America.

Comcast won The Consumerist’s annual award for ‘Worst Company in America’ in 2010 and 2014, narrowly beating out Monsanto for the title, thanks to the fact that the company “didn’t care about shoddy service; (has) techs who may or may not show up; questionable billing procedures; and charges fees for everything under the sun.”

The reported terror of dealing with Comcast’s customer service has spawned a website called comcastmustdie.com, which is dedicated to exposing the “vast, greedy, blundering, tone-deaf corporate colossus,” and even a Facebook page called I Hate Comcast, where “victims of Comcast” share their tales of dealing with the company.

Here’s to you, Comcast! Mr. Orange loves you. But your customers are a different story.
