Marco Rubio may have no issue attending a gay wedding, but the same cannot be said about Rick Santorum.

One day after Rubio made news telling Fusion’s Jorge Ramos that he would be willing to attend a gay marriage, Santorum told radio host Hugh Hewitt he would not attend a gay wedding under any circumstance, even for a loved one.

“Now, let me ask you the question that was asked of Senator Rubio yesterday,” Hewitt said. “Would you, Rick Santorum, attend a same-sex wedding of a loved one or a family friend or anyone you were close to?”

“No, I would not,” Santorum said.

“Well, why not?” Hewitt followed up.

“Because I don’t — as a person of my faith, that would be something that would be a violation of my faith,” Santorum said. “I would love them and support them, but I would not participate in that ceremony.”

Santorum has long been a staunch opponent of same-sex marriage, having said during his 2012 campaign that he would have reinstated the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy had he won the White House.

“I would say any type of sexual activity has absolutely no place in the military,” Santorum said during a 2011 debate. “And the fact that they’re making a point to include it as a provision within the military that we are going to recognize a group of people and give them a special privilege to – and removing ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ I think tries to inject social policy into the military. And the military’s job is to do one thing, and that is to defend our country.”

“What we’re doing is playing social experimentation with our military right now. And that’s tragic. I would say that going forward, we would reinstitute that policy with Rick Santorum as president. Period.”
