President Whitmore is on the ticket for 2016, meaning Bill Pullman has officially signed on to be in “Independence Day 2,” a sequel to the 1996 film. He will reprise his role as Thomas Whitmore, the president who shot aliens out of a fighter jet and became a legend.
Judd Hirsch, Jeff Goldblum and a handful of other actors from the first film will also be back. Vivica A. Foxx will play Will Smith’s wife, though Smith himself will not be in the film.
Roland Emmerich, director of the original 1996 film that grossed over $800 million, announced the return on Twitter.
