A California man with a night chock full of bad ideas was bitten by a police dog and taken in by police Thursday.
Stanley McQuery, 54, allegedly broke into the San Diego home of a 79-year-old amputee, but when the amputee victim tried to use his phone to call for help, things got ugly. Investigators say McQuery stole the victim’s cellphone and threw him out of his electric wheelchair. He then allegedly absconded in the wheelchair where police found him cruising about two blocks away, City News Service reports.
McQuery tried to ditch his ride and make a run for it, but a police dog got to him first, leaving him with minor injuries. Photos of the incident show McQuery with blood on his right side and what appear to be tears on his face.
Electric wheelchairs usually do not move faster than 5 mph. An average healthy person can easily run faster than that.
McQuery has a court hearing later this month for reported charges of robbery and burglary, including multiple misdemeanors.
