Anti-gay marriage demonstrators delivered 300,000 symbolic restraining orders to the steps of the Supreme Court Monday.

The coalition of groups, which held a press conference on the court’s steps, is calling on Congress to block the Supreme Court from ruling. They also advocated that Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Elena Kagan recuse themselves, saying their participation in officiating gay marriage ceremonies has made them biased.

The demonstration comes as the Supreme Court prepares to hear arguments in Obergefell v. Hodges Tuesday, a case that could prevent states from banning gay marriages or refusing to recognize the rights of couples in gay marriages.

Janet Porter, president of Faith2Action, pointed to Article 3, Section 2 of the Constitution which says the Supreme Court has appellate jurisdiction, “with such exceptions, and under such regulations as the Congress shall make.” She wants Congress to prevent the court from making a decision.

“The restraining order itself is symbolic but what we’re calling on Congress to do is not symbolic,” Porter told The Daily Caller News Foundation. “Congress can say, ‘You can’t really rule on this.’ It sounds really out there, like can this be done, but it’s already been done.”

A few dozen protesters spoke behind stacks of empty boxes representing the collected petitions. They opened the press conference with a public prayer, the first of three the press conference attendees would hear.

The conference featured several formerly gay or transgender people decrying the redefining of marriage as well as pastors and ministry leaders.

“We have two justices that are already very pro-gay marriage, and I’m sure the other ones may follow suit, but the problem is no judge has the authority to go against the words of God or to counteract what God has ordained,” rally attendee Grace Harley, director and producer at God’s Will & Grace TV, told TheDCNF. “Marriage is a covenant created by the most high God which means man needs to separate and stay away from that particular issue because they didn’t create marriage.”
