A female comedian from Chicago posted a video Sunday night in which she claims to have uncovered a two-way mirror in the women’s bathroom of a suburban Chicago bar, but the owner of the bar said it’s totally cool because it scares women during their Halloween celebration.
In the video, local Chicago comedian Tamale Rocks claims she noticed something strange about a mirror opposite of the ladies’ toilet and decided to investigate the unlocked door leading to a cleaning closet. It turns out the two-way mirror is an unlocked door that leads to a maintenance closet only accessible from inside the ladies bathroom.
Predictably outraged, a Jezebel reporter called up the bar to ask about the mirror.
“It’s old news; the door is open; it’s for Halloween,” Lottz told Jezebel. “We used to hang a witch’s head in there so that the girls would pee, and they’d look into a dingy closet and be all weirded out,” “We specialize in making people feel very uncomfortable. It’s why we’re successful today. If you get it, you get it. If you don’t, stay home.”
The owner explained that during the bar’s annual Halloween celebration a flashing head is hung behind the mirror, which can be seen by people on the other side. People are then free to open the unlocked door to see the dingy supply closet on the other side.
When asked if he would keep the mirror in the bathroom, Lottz said, “I will burn this fucking place to the ground before I get rid of that mirror. Do you know how much joy that mirror has brought to us? We’re synonymous with Halloween. We do a freaky family fun day, and all the kids look in the mirror. This is a fun house, honey, and if you don’t like the two-way mirror, go fuck yourself; and if you come on my stage, have something to say.”
Lottz even asked the Jezebel reporter if she put something “into that Yelp thing” about the mirror.
“No bitch, you didn’t, somebody else did about fucking five years ago,” Lottz said.
It wasn’t quite five years ago, but somebody did mention the mirror on Yelp almost a year ago.
Maybe the mirror is there to spy on women peeing, but given the owner’s openness about the subject, it seems unlikely.
