On MSNBC’s “Up w/ Steve Kornacki,” NBC’s “Meet The Press” host Chuck Todd said that Hillary Clinton handled concerns over foreign donations to the Clinton Foundation “awfully,” and seemed “completely flat-footed.”
“In a way we knew that the Clinton Foundation was going to be something that her opponents and the media were going to be looking very closely at,” host Steve Kornacki noted. “This week, you got a taste of what that’s going to look like. How do you think she handled it this week?”
“I think they handled this awfully,” Todd said. “This is the single most predictable issue that this campaign was going to have to deal with, and they seemed completely flat-footed, totally unaware of sort of what was coming, because it is a reminder that they probably didn’t do their own self-vetting on this.” (VIDEO: NBC’s Chuck Todd Slams The Clintons: ‘Just Dumb And Inept’)
“And I can’t tell you the number of Democratic operatives — some of whom are actually working in the Clinton campaign, some of whom are not, who all have the same shake of their head going: why are they still accepting foreign donations?” he continued. “It’s is a total head-scratcher why they ever did in the first place, but why are they still doing it?”
“There are a whole bunch of Democrats shaking their heads,” Todd concluded. “If there was a real challenger, to Hillary Clinton that some in the party were comfortable rallying around, I think you would hear more Democrats openly criticizing this relationship, frankly the way Barack Obama did eight years ago.”
