Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, neurosurgeon Ben Carson and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker are doing the best among early state Republicans who have a clear favorite for president, according to a new Vox Populi-Daily Caller poll.

The poll asked 1,008 Republican voters in Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina to rate 14 potential candidates on a seven-point scale.

As for respondents in the three states with a clear favorite, Walker led with 10 percent, Carson with nine percent and Rubio with eight percent.

The numbers, according to the pollsters who conducted the poll, indicate that Rubio and Walker are in strong positions as the race heats up, and Carson, who jumped in the race earlier this month, has staying power.

“Our poll shows that Marco Rubio and Scott Walker have firmly established themselves as top contenders for the Republican nomination,” said Luke Carter with Vox Populi Polling. “A majority of likely voters in early primary states would consider voting for them, while relatively few Republicans consider Senator Rubio and Governor Walker to be unacceptable candidates.”

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush is at seven percent, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee is at seven percent, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul is at six percent, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz is at six percent and South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham is at six percent.

Others receiving votes included New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie at four percent, former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum at two percent, Texas Sen. Rick Perry at two percent, former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina at two percent, Ohio Gov. John Kasich at one percent and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal at one percent.

Twenty-eight percent of those polled were undecided.

The numbers also show that Rubio and Walker have the most people willing to consider voting for them in Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina.

“Behind Walker and Rubio, our poll finds a different candidate in third place in total candidate consideration in each of the first three primary states. Mike Huckabee ranks third in Iowa, Jeb Bush ranks third in New Hampshire, and Ben Carson ranks third in South Carolina,” Carter said.

The margin of error in the poll is plus or minus 3.1 percent. Automated telephone technology was used for 848 of the interviews, while mobile based survey technology was used for 160 of the interviews.

Of those polled, 21 percent are in Iowa, 21 percent are New Hampshire and 59 percent are in South Carolina.

The poll was conducted by Vox Populi Polling for The Daily Caller.
