One of the four U.S. citizens being held hostage by Houthi rebels in Yemen was released Monday, according to reports.

Casey Coombs, a freelance journalist, flew to neighboring Oman where he was met by the U.S. ambassador, according to BBC News. Coombs, captured last month, was injured but in stable condition.

His mother, Jill Hammill, told The Washington Post, “It’s been a long and horrible ride, and this is a great outcome.”

Coombs, 33, had written for The Intercept, in addition to other outlets.

The Washington Post reported three Americans who work in the private sector and one dual American-Yemeni citizen with an unknown occupation were being held by Houthi rebels in Sanaa last Friday.

Iran-backed, Houthi rebels took control Sanaa earlier this year. Saudi Arabia currently leads a military offensive against Houthi positions in Yemen, seeking to restore Yemen’s exiled president to power.

Yemen is also home to al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula, the terror group taking advantage of the country’s unstable conditions. (Al-Qaida Freed Hundreds Of Inmates From Yemeni Prison)
