Tyler Martin — the son of slain Houston Police Officer Richard Martin — has had an extremely difficult month, but with a little encouragement from the Houston PD family, he’s been able to once again experience joy by playing the game he loves.

Back in May, Martin paid tribute to his late father by starting for his local little league team and dreams of playing in the Major Leagues someday.

“I will follow my dreams and play hard in the Major Leagues, then I will follow in your footsteps in being a police officer,” Tyler wrote in a promise to his father’s memory, and earlier this week, he took his first steps toward making good on that pledge. (RELATED: Houston PD Cheers On Son Of Fallen Officer At Little League Game)

Martin tossed out the ceremonial first pitch prior to the Astros’ 5-2 victory over the Orioles on Monday, and the kid definitely has potential.
