Robert Gibbs, President Obama’s former White House press secretary, is taking a new job at McDonald’s, now branding itself as a “progressive burger company.”

The fast-food chain said Tuesday that Gibbs has been appointed executive vice president and global chief communications officer. He will report to McDonald’s president and CEO Steve Easterbrook.

In a press release, Easterbrook called Gibbs “highly-respected” and “talented,” saying he will “bring a wealth of experience and outside perspective to McDonald’s as we build a more modern, progressive burger company.”

“Returning excitement to our business proposition and brand is foundational to our turnaround plan, and Robert…will play critical roles in bringing this strategy to life,” he said.

Gibbs, who was Obama’s first White House spokesman, has been running The Incite Agency, a firm he started in 2013. He has also been a contributor to NBC and MSNBC.
