While discussing the chances of various 2016 presidential candidates on “Meet the Press” Sunday, talk radio host Hugh Hewitt told Chuck Todd Marco Rubio is the strongest candidate the Republicans can pit against Hillary Clinton.

CHUCK TODD: Do you agree with the growing Washington consensus that Marco Rubio is the toughest potential nominee Republicans can put up against Hillary Clinton?

HUGH HEWITT: I do. In [Hewitt’s new book] “The Queen”, I write that he is Hillary’s worst nightmare, for a variety of reasons.

One, he’s connected — I’ll tell you this — Whenever I see Rubio give a speech, the wait staff comes out to listen. That’s very rare, particularly in a Republican thing. That’s because you look around, and Rubio is their kid. It’s an amazing thing to see. It happens to an extent with Ted Cruz, as well, because he’s also their kid, but in California where so much of the wait staff and the people that are serving the meals are Mexican-American or some other immigrant, they will come forward to listen to this son of immigrants who has made it so well.

And he is so electric. He’s also a sports guy, and I can’t overstate how much I think this matters in American politics. To be able to talk about the Dolphins with Felicity. To be able to talk about LeBron and to talk about Florida. It really does connect with average Americans.
