As Taliban militants exploded a bomb right outside Afghanistan’s parliament Monday, Speaker Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi barely flinched.

The legislature was gathered to endorse Masood Stanekzai, a nominee to be the country’s next defense minister. As the suicide bomber’s car blew up outside the parliament’s gates, six gunmen rushed the building, but were repelled by security guards outside.

A short clip capturing the moment of the blast quickly made the rounds on Vine.

Ibrahimi is speaker of the House of the People, the lower chamber of the Afghan National Assembly. According to the Washington Post, he lost his own father, brother and nephew to a suicide bomb attack in 2013.

Many on social media quickly hailed Ibrahimi as the “coolest man ever” and showing an “impressive amount of self-control.” But others suggested that his nonchalance was the “sad” product of Afghanistan’s many years under fire from the Taliban and other terrorist groups.

Parliamentarians quickly fled to the building’s basement after the attack, though reportedly no security guards were immediately on hand inside the building.
