Rap star Marshall Mathers (Eminem) appeared as a guest Monday evening on an unofficial ad hoc Colbert Report during the “Only in Monroe” program, a local public access TV show in Monroe, Michigan.

Colbert sings lines from Bob Seger before discussing Mathers’ rapping style.

“I’m just trying to figure out why I’m here,” the rapper later questioned.

The contemplation was a response to Colbert’s unsolicited advice for the Grammy-award winning multi-millionaire and Michigan native, telling him to find a fall-back career when the dream of a successful music career inevitably fails.

“I’m very serious. If you don’t have a retirement program by the time you’re fifty, you’re dead in the water. There’s nothing to do at that point. You’re a greeter at Walmart,” Colbert said, acting oblivious to Mathers’ fame.

Colbert’s profound confusion was resolved when he eventually recalled:

“I know who you are. You’re the dude who did the thing with Elton John at the Grammy’s.”
