Unlike most of America, Jason Pierre-Paul did NOT have a great Fourth of July.
The New York Giants star defensive end was rushed to the hospital after a firework he was holding on Saturday night exploded in his hand.
Doctors doubt that Pierre-Paul’s injuries are career threatening — though he did sustain sever burns on his palm and three fingers — but they were serious enough to make the Giants think twice about the monster contract they just offered him.
The Giants had labeled Pierre-Paul with the team’s “franchise tag,” but he still hadn’t signed the team’s $60 million offer, an offer the Giants have since pulled from the negotiating table following JPP’s accident.
For those asking, yes a team can pull a franchise tag tender at any time. Player immediately becomes an unrestricted free agent

Even if signed the non-football injury aspect would allow the team to void a contract or ask for better terms
