Doctors have amputated Jason Pierre-Paul’s right index finger.

Over Fourth of July weekend, the two-time N.Y. Giants Pro Bowler had a firework go off in his hand, creating serious injures and burns to both of his hands. (RELATED: Contract Talks Figuratively Blow Up In NFL Star’s Face After Firework Literally Blows Up In His Hand)

It was initially believed that his injuries were not career threatening and that Pierre-Paul would be able to return to form.

However, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Wednesday that doctors have amputated Pierre-Paul’s right index finger.

Take a look at the medical chart below.

The Giants now have a decision to make regarding his future. The team had already assigned a 1-year $14.8 million franchise tag to Pierre-Paul giving them until July 15 to reach a long-term contract agreement. The team also has the option to withdraw the tag, which would make Pierre-Paul an unrestricted free agent.
