The New York Times said Wednesday it will move Republican Sen. and presidential candidate Ted Cruz’s book on its bestsellers list, about a week after Cruz accused the paper of keeping it off for political reasons.

Cruz’s memoir, “A Time For Truth,” did not make the list for its first week of sales, but will appear at No. 7 for its second-week sales, reported Politico. The paper insists the change is not related to Cruz’s complaint.

“This week’s NYT best-seller list was arrived at using the same process as last week’s — and the week before that,” Times spokeswoman Eileen Murphy told Politico. “That process involves a careful analysis of data, and is not influenced in any way by the content of a book, or by pressure from publishers or book sellers.” (RELATED: A One Act Play REveals Why The New York Times Kept Cruz’s Book Off Its Bestsellers List)

The Cruz campaign accused TheNYT Friday of lying when it said his book did not make the list because a bulk of its sales came from “strategic bulk purchases,” and demanded the paper provide evidence to back up its claim.

“Demonstrate that your charge isn’t simply a naked fabrication, designed to cover up your own partisan agenda,” campaign spokesman Rick Tyler said in a statement Friday. “And, if you cannot do so, then issue a public apology to Senator Cruz and Harper Collins editor Adam Bellow for making false charges against them.”

HarperCollins, the book’s publisher, and Amazon, the largest Internet retailer in the country, said this week they saw no evidence of unusual bulk purchases. (RELATED: Amazon Gives Cruz More Ammo In NYT Fight)

“A Time For Truth ranked high on the other publishing industry bestseller lists including Nielsen Bookscan (#4), a subscription service that tracks the vast majority of book sales in America, The Wall Street Journal (#4) and Barnes and Noble (#7),” HarperCollins spokeswoman Tina Andreadis told BuzzFeed.

“As of yesterday, ‘A Time for Truth’ was the number 13 bestselling book, and there is no evidence of unusual bulk purchase activity in our sales data,” Amazon spokeswoman Sarah Gelman told Politico.

TheNYT has refused to back up its defense with any evidence, saying it must protect the integrity of the process by keeping its methodology secret.

“Our approach serves Times readers by authenticating broadly popular books through the confidential reporting of a wide range of retailers,” Murphy told Politico. “In order to avoid compromising that process, we do not disclose who reports sales to us.”
