A disagreement over the Michigan/Ohio State football rivalry turned into a catfight and bro-brawl on a Lake Erie ferry over the weekend.

Witnesses say the argument escalated to physical violence when a woman pulled another woman’s hair, then two men — each woman’s companion — began exchanging punches, 13ABC reports.

“They were arguing, cursing at each other,” Ben Freeman, a witness on board said. “As the argument went on, the Michigan fan’s girlfriend stood up, pulled the hair of the Ohio State’s fan’s girlfriend … the wife, actually. He tried to defend his wife by shoving the Michigan fan’s girlfriend. The Michigan fan stood up and tried to defend his girlfriend. And after that they mutually started to fist fight and swing on each other. It was crazy.”

“That’s ridiculous,” Gary Mahoney, a dumbfounded Michigan State fan on board said in response to the brawl.

The Michigan fans, 25-year-old Ashley Artiaga and 31-year-old Ian Schuster, both reportedly from the Toledo, Ohio area, were slapped with assault charges for the incident.

“It happens,” said Todd Blumensaadt, the owner of the ferry service. “They get very passionate about their teams.”
