An Ohio concealed carrier who shares the same name as NBA legend Patrick Ewing protected himself and several others — including a 1-year-old — after a 62-year-old man wielding two guns opened fire Sunday night in Cincinnati.

The incident began as an argument between the assailant, Thomas McCary, and a woman, according to Cincinnati’s Fox19. Ewing, who is the woman’s brother, approached to help settle the dispute. That’s when McCary pulled out a .38-caliber handgun and shot at Ewing three times.

But Ewing has a concealed carry license and a gun to boot. He pulled the firearm out and shot at McCary three times, hitting him once in the leg.

But that wasn’t the end of it.

McCary retreated back into his house. When he emerged, he was armed with two guns. He began shooting at the woman, her 1-year-old son, and another man. The victims retreated as Ewing opened fire again to divert McCary’s attention. McCary was taken to the hospital. He was treated and released into police custody. He is being held without bond in Hamilton County jail on four counts of felonious assault.
