A 2012 email exchange in which Hillary Clinton’s top aide Huma Abedin complains that her Clinton email account was down raises new questions about the national security implications of Clinton’s private email server arrangement.

Citizens United obtained the Oct. 10, 2012, emails between Abedin and Stephanie Streett, the executive director of the Clinton Foundation. Citizens United has filed several lawsuits for emails from Clinton and several of her top aides. The conservative watchdog group is trying to find out whether Clinton used her position as secretary of state to help the Clinton Foundation or any of its donors.

In one email sent from her official State Department account, Abedin complains to Streett that her Clinton email account was not working. The two appear to have been discussing flooring options of some sort.

In an email minutes later, Abedin said, “I can’t even get into my clinton email.” Abedin is one of the handful of Clinton aides who had an email account on the clintonemail.com domain. The server that hosted that email domain was registered to the Clinton’s Chappaqua, N.Y. home.

In an appearance Wednesday night on Fox’s “Hannity,” David Bossie, the president of Citizens United, said that the emails show the vulnerability of the Clinton’s email arrangement.

“This shows you, and this really comes down to the question of national security, that’s what makes this so important,” Bossie said. “Huma is talking  about her email being down, about the server being down. Who services the server? Does the geek squad show up and just fix it in Chappequa? I don’t think so.”

Clinton has said repeatedly that her email server was never hacked. But many have questioned those assurances since Clinton has provided little to know information to help vet the claim.

The security of Clinton’s server has become a focal point since it was revealed earlier this month that some of the documents maintained on that server contained information that should have been classified. Clinton has denied that she ever sent or received classified information.

Bossie told Hannity that the latest email is just the first in a batch of records Citizens United will receive from its Freedom of Information Act lawsuits. The State Department has until September to turn over the rest of the records.

“Huma Abedin is as close to Hillary Clinton as they get, and really these emails showing the connection between her at the State Department, the Clinton Foundation donors which is really the thread we were trying to pull — how Clinton Inc. works,” Bossie said.
