Former Actress And Current Tax Deadbeat Melissa Gilbert (D) To Run For Congress In Michigan

I had a crush on Melissa Gilbert when I was a kid, long, long ago, before she became a victim of plastic surgery. I would’ve been just fine remembering her from back then, but she doesn’t want that. Now that Hollywood is done with her, she’s bored and she wants to bother normal people. Well, people in East Lansing, at least.

Todd Spangler, Detroit Free Press:

Actress Melissa Gilbert, best known for her portrayal of Laura Ingalls Wilder on NBC’s “Little House on the Prairie” in the 1970s and ‘80s, said Monday she will run for Congress in Michigan’s 8th District — though her campaign will have to tamp down questions about a tax bill…

“I’m running for Congress to make life a little easier for all the families who feel they have fallen through the cracks in today’s economy,” Gilbert said in a statement released on her website, www.gilbertformichigan.com. “I believe building a new economy is a team effort, and we need to bring fresh voices to the table to get the job done…”

There are questions she will have to address, however. In June, the Daily Press & Argus in Livingston County reported that the IRS filed a lien against Gilbert, alleging she owes more than $360,000 in back taxes, a point that Michigan Republicans were quick to point out as she announced her campaign.

And if she were a Republican, Democrats would be quick to point out her tax lien. The difference is, those Democrats would have newspaper bylines.

Gilbert says she wants to make life easier for less fortunate families. I wonder, do her plans involve spending money from taxpayers? Income redistribution has come a long way from the days when Obama had to malign an Ohio plumber to cover his own ass. Is that what Gilbert wants to do, spread the wealth? If not, what’s her plan? Does it involve free unicorns?

In other words: Who will pay for it?

Democrats want to collect and spend other people’s money, but when the hat is passed around to them, they don’t want to chip in. (See: the remaining MSNBC lineup.)

$360K is a lot of hay, Laura Ingalls Wilder. Better start balin’!
