There appear to be few limits on the growth of North America’s burgeoning marijuana industry, with a Canadian university now offering students a full-blown course on how to grow and sell pot.
Metro Vancouver’s Kwantlen Polytechnic University will give students a 14-week course covering everything from cannabis cultivation to navigating the complex web of laws and regulations governing Canada’s marijuana industry.
Business development manager at Experchem Laboratories Tegan Adams will lead the course with the title “Introduction to Professional Management of Marijuana for Medical Purposes in Canada.”
Starting in the fall, the course is divided into two parts, with one focused on plant production and facility management and the other on marketing, sales and drug development. Students will have to shell out $3,000 for the whole course.
According to Metro News, the university’s executive director Jim Pelton explained that “the production perspective we take is more akin to what you might find in the manufacturing industry than what you might find doing a bunch of roses.” The Canadian National Medical Marijuana association was instrumental in constructing the courses. In total, Canada has 25 licensed marijuana growing establishments.
Canada isn’t the only country where marijuana is making its way into the education system. In July, the Northeastern Institute of Cannabis was set up in Massachusetts and is looking for student applications. The school will educate students in the America’s rapidly growing marijuana industry. In February, Anne Arundel Community College in Lanham, Md., launched a course dedicated to learning about the business opportunities to be found in the emerging marijuana-related industry.
