A spokesman for “New Day for America” — the pro-John Kasich super PAC — confirmed some of Jeb Bush’s backers might be jumping ship for Gov. John Kasich.

According to The Hill, Kasich’s spokesman declined any further information about whether the campaign has received any new monetary support from those in the Bush camp but stated that several donors have expressed “interest in potentially supporting” the former Ohio governor.

This news further illustrates Kasich’s rise in the polls following the Fox News GOP debate on August 6. In the latest Real Clear Politics average, Kasich trails Bush by only one point in New Hampshire and has already spent $4 million on campaign ads in the state, a fact not lost on Bush.

Politico reported on Thursday that Bush’s campaign began taking a serious look over the past week at Kasich’s finances, dating back to his tenure as governor.

Bush’s campaign spokesman Tim Miller called the record gathering “basic campaign due diligence.”
