UPDATE: Louisiana Senior Trooper Steven Vincent died Monday morning, according to Louisiana State Police releases.

“You’re going to die soon.”

These are the alleged final words a man said while standing over the body of a wounded Louisiana police officer, picked up by the officer’s camera. The man burst out of his truck wielding a sawed off shotgun and shot the officer in the head before looking down at him and saying, “You’re lucky–you’re going to die soon.”

The alleged attacker Kevin Daigle, 54, is in police custody after motorists saw what happened and tackled Daigle, CBS News reports.

Vincent stopped to help Daigle, whose truck had been turned sideways in a ditch. Police say the video shows Daigle came out of the truck and shot Vincent with no provocation.

Daigle then walked over to the fallen officer and began speaking to him.

“You could hear him breathing, telling him, ‘You’re lucky. You’re lucky – you’re going to die soon.’ That’s the words that came out of his mouth,” Col. Mike Edmonson Edmonson told reporters.

Police said Vincent is fighting for his life. His family is asking for prayers.
