Kanye West ended his acceptance speech for the Video Vanguard Award at the Video Music Awards with a surprising announcement.

He plans to run for president — in five years.

“And yes, as you probably could’ve guessed by this moment,” West said. “I have decided in 2020 to run for president.”

The 38-year-old went on a ten-minute rant after he won the lifetime achievement award, which is “given to musicians who have made a profound effect on the MTV culture,” and said he didn’t understand awards shows.

During his speech, West said he “wasn’t no politician” and admitted to smoking weed before he arrived. (VIDEO: Nicki Minaj Verbally Attacks Miley Cyrus While Accepting Award)

“The answer is yes,” West told the crowd. “Yea, I knocked the edge off.”

“I don’t know what’s going to happen tonight. I don’t know what’s going to happen tomorrow, bro. But all I can say to my fellow artists, is just worry about how you feel at the time.”

Miley Cyrus, the show’s host, said she was planning to vote for Donald Trump but would now vote for West. (RELATED: Donald Trump Loved Miley Cyrus’s VMA Performance)
