Whoopi Goldberg blasted Kim Davis, the Kentucky clerk jailed for refusing to issue same-sex marriage licenses, arguing “if you make that decision that God is your boss, then you can’t work for the federal government.”

Goldberg, appearing on “The View” Tuesday, explains that “either we are a country of laws and you adhere to those laws or you take a different job where you don’t, where your religious beliefs do not have anything to do with anybody else’s freedoms.” (RELATED: FreeKimDavis.com Domain Redirects To LGBT Organization)

Whoopi Goldberg: Listen, I’m sorry. You know, I get that, I get, you know, that, that she feels very strongly about this. But if you make that decision that God is your boss, then you can’t work for the federal government.

Joy Behar: That’s right.

Goldberg: Because there are so many, you know, in the ’50s when folks were getting arrested and for protesting not being able to sit in the front of the bus or sit at the table in a restaurant, you know, people said, “Well, we’re not going to acknowledge you as a human being because it’s against what I believe.” So, either we are a country of laws and you adhere to those laws or you take a different job where you don’t, where your religious beliefs do not have anything to do with anybody else’s freedoms.
